The honest answer: a single-room installation starts from £1,195 fully fitted, and most multi-room systems land between £2,600 and £6,000. Here's exactly what moves the price up or down — and how to get your own figure in about 60 seconds.
Every tier is installed to the same careful standard by F-Gas certified engineers — the price difference is the unit on the wall. All prices are fully installed and include 0% VAT on qualifying domestic installations.
| Tier | Typical units | First room | Each extra room |
|---|---|---|---|
| Economy | Fujitsu ECO Range KL Series · MHI SRK-ZSP-W1 | £1,195 | Single-room installs only |
| Standard | Fujitsu KM Series · MHI SRK-ZTL-W Standard Plus | £1,495 | +£1,145 |
| Mid-Range | Fujitsu Designer KE Series · Mitsubishi MSZ-AY/AP Elegance | £1,795 | +£1,395 |
| Premium | Mitsubishi MSZ-EF R32 Zen · MSZ-LN Premium* | £2,145 | +£1,695 |
*Premium units selected subject to the suitability of the application. Economy installs need an external wall and a pipe run of up to 4 metres; Standard and above allow runs up to 10 metres.
Bigger, open spaces need higher-capacity units. Bedrooms and offices sit at the base price; lofts and dining rooms add £75 per room, lounges £125, and large open-plan kitchen-diners or dining-lounges £275.
Multi-split systems share one outdoor unit across up to six rooms, so each extra room costs less than the first — two Standard-tier bedrooms come to £2,640, not £2,990. Five or six rooms sometimes need twin outdoor units, which we confirm at your free survey.
An indoor unit on an external wall is the simplest install. If pipework needs to run through an internal wall and exit elsewhere, add £95; if there's no external wall and it must route via the loft or another room, add £245 (Standard tier and above).
The outdoor condenser unit needs a power supply. Our electrician can take care of the outdoor supply and connection for £295 — or your own electrician can have it in place before install day at no charge from us.
Rooms above the ground floor may need scaffolding or access equipment for working heights above 1.5 metres. There's no automatic charge — we flag it and confirm any access needs at your free survey.
Semi-detached, unit on an external wall, own electrician.
Detached, external walls, our electrician (+£295).
No external wall — pipework routed via the loft, own electrician.
Your home won't exactly match these — that's the point of the instant quote calculator. Answer a few taps and it prices your exact setup across all four tiers.
Energy-efficient home air conditioning currently qualifies for 0% VAT on qualifying domestic installations — every price on this page and in our calculator already includes it, so there's nothing added on top.
Running costs are lower than most people expect: a small split unit draws around 0.6–1.6 kWh while actively cooling — roughly 20–40p per hour at typical tariffs — and throttles right down once the room hits temperature. Used as heating, air-to-air heat pumps deliver several units of heat for every unit of electricity, which is exactly why one of our customers switched from oil heating to six Mitsubishi units.
